Wellness Dog Food - You Should Make Your Own Dog Food




If you are like most people, your dog is like a family member. We always take care of our family member’s needs. Looking after our dog’s needs is just as important. On more and more occasions we are hearing about dogs dying from the harmful additives in commercial dog foods, there is more of a reason now then ever to make your own dog food.

You are able to be confident that the ingredients in the food that your “best friend” is taking in when you make your own dog food. When compared to home cooked dog food recipes which are all-natural, commercially-bought dog treats and food lack a lot of the essential vitamins that your dog needs to stay healthy. The food is full of chemical preservatives, and can contain hazardous food coloring by-products, which could potentially cost your dog it’s life!

Recipes for healthy dog food are generally made up of meat, which give dogs their needed proteins. Insufficient protein can lead to multiple health problems; such as, a weak immune system, chronic skin and ear problems, excessive shedding, and even aggression. Recipes for healthy dog food make sure your dog is getting quality meet like beef, chicken, or lamb, which can be mixed with vegetables, and other nutrient rich food sources.

Your dog’s diet is very dependent on vitamins. Be sure to choose good recipes that contain ingredients filled with vitamins such as Vitamins A,D,E,K,B1,B12, Folic Acid, and Niacin; and minerals such as sodium, iron, potassium, and calcium. When these nutrients are unbalanced, serious health issues can occur in your dog.

For example, Vitamin A deficiency can lead to weight loss, weak immune system, and eyesight problems. Also lack of enough Vitamin B12 can lead to anemia, and changes to the bone marrow. Likewise, when your dog has a deficiency in the needed minerals, health issues such as paralysis, convulsions, muscle weakness, and tissue damage can occur.

Commercially-bought food for your dogs are notorious for containing toxic substances such as Sodium Pentobarbital (The chemical used to put animals to “sleep.”) Consuming this over a long period of time, your pet could have irreversible damage done. All of these potentially deadly problems are avoided by using recipes for healthy dog food.

Butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA), butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), Ethoxyquin and Propylene Glycol are just a few chemicals found in commercial dog foods. They are added as preservatives, but with these ingredients in the food, your dog runs the risk of developing kidney problems, cancer, and the destruction of it’s red blood cells.

Please note, even when you make your own dog food, it is not a guarantee that your dog will have no health problems. As I pointed out, what you put in to his daily meal can make a huge difference. Feeding your dog with your own dog food, helps keep him away from sickness and food poisoning since his diet is controlled by you.

So once you take everything into consideration, it may be more beneficial for you and your dog to make your own dog food. Sure, it may cost a bit of time… but knowing that you have helped your four-legged friend live a longer and more healthy life will make it more than worth it. -Your pet will surely want to “kiss the cook”
